Personal Trainer

“Wellness is a continuous practice of showing up to ourselves to the best of our ability. It is not a place we arrive at, but rather a balance between movement and stillness. If we accept this, health and fitness become a practice and “giving up” or “quitting” naturally become obsolete.”

Who is she?

Jill is a Master Health Coach and Personal Trainer for GymTonic. She teaches clients to build a sustainable lifestyle in ‘deep health.’ With a focus on functional strength, restorative practices, healthy habit building, energy, and nutrition, Jill helps clients balance life.

Style

Jill offers a truly holistic approach to health and fitness. With her extensive background in holistic health, Jill is uniquely suited to create fully customized programs for her clients that address not only physical health, but also mental health, spiritual health. Combining her training as a Master Health Coach with her skills in functional fitness and nutrition, Jill empowers her clients to develop self-confidence and strength. She uses her exceptional intuition and skills in deep listening, along with science-based knowledge of the body, to create customized programs that lead to lasting lifestyle changes. She loves using strength training to increase muscle mass, reduce injury, and keep joints mobile, but she also values restorative practices like sleep, self-massage, and yoga. Jill’s clients have come to trust her empathy, humor, gentle strength, and encouragement to help them transform into the best versions of themselves.

Client base

With over 20 years in the health and fitness industry and an extensive background studying the mind/body connection, Jill enjoys a diverse client base. Her own background with illness and injury forms a compassionate bridge to clients who are working through similar challenges. Some of her clients include — women on learning to lift, people on weight loss journeys, men gaining strength in the gym, seniors who are dedicated to being fit, or those who have never stepped foot in a gym before. As a trained doula, Jill also enjoys working with pre & postnatal mothers. Whatever your starting point, Jill has the skills and experience to meet you where you are.

Education & History

With a bachelor’s degree from Naropa University in the Arts, and minoring in the Contemplative Eastern Arts of Yoga, Aikido, and Meditation, Jill’s education crosses many disciplines. These areas of interest encompassed some of Jill’s passions and were developed out of love, curiosity, and necessity. Her own wellness path began in her early 20’s while recovering from trauma and illness and it grew from there. In addition to her certifications (see below), she draws from her life experiences. Jill has played nearly every sport, has practiced yoga for 20+ years, and competitively swam for over 12 years (joining the Masters team in High School). Jill was inspired to become a personal trainer while rehabbing one of her own injuries and after listening to multiple clients and friends complain of “unapproachable” personal trainers. Along with exercise science, Jill is a devoted student of the healing arts, beginning private apprenticeships in 1998. She has trained with masters from Hong Kong, Bali, Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America in various modalities of healing.

Work History

Jill began teaching fitness in high school as a swim instructor. After college, she pursued a successful career in art; however after 10 years, Jill realized her passion had become just another job and burnout led her to escape into the wilderness. Jill found herself in Kantishna, Alaska where she became the lead backcountry guide in the foothills of Denali, AK. When not out hiking, she taught yoga and wild plant medicine classes. Upon returning to the lower 48, Jill started her own wellness company where she hosted wellness retreats, offered whole foods catering, as well as fitness and health coaching. Desiring a more structured environment, Jill signed onto a corporate gym 5 years ago where she quickly became one of their top trainers. Jill has transitioned to GymTonic as a founding team member inspired by the mission to create a community based fitness and wellness center.
